A symbolic depiction of Harry Potter using a Patronus spell to destroy a dementor, taken from chapter 45 of Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Eliezer S. Yudkowsky, inspired by J.K. Rowling.

P.S.

I would like to achieve the technical skill to do this image justice. As it is, this picture draws whatever strength it may have from the moment of true glory depicted in Methods of Rationality, in which Death itself is conquered.

Trivia: As I understand it, Rene Descartes did not write "cogito ergo sum" until after his thought had already been translated; rather, he first wrote "Je pense donc je suis."

I just read this chapter today, and I knew that Vitruvian Man had to be involved somehow.

Pretty much one of my favorite moments in fiction, and I'd say that you did do the scene as much justice as a picture could have. This is just more metaphorical than literal is all. ^_^

I love this concept tremendously, and have been wanting to do my own take on it for a while. I hope you don't mind being the inspirer of Harry Potter fanfiction fanart fanart.

As a habitual lover of symbolism, I have to say its use in this picture is /perfect./

Someone should definitely have the Missing Link as their Patronus in this fic. Then evolutionary historians could cast their own charms off seeing that. :XD:

Ever since I read that chapter, I've been hoping that someone would illustrate that scene using the "stages of man" type sequence (for its symbolic, if not scientific, value) or the Vitruvian Man, and now you've gone and used both. Kudos!

Thanks! Great minds think alike!

That was my first effort at drawing anything in several years. I'd remembered it as being easier . . . just visualize a picture in your head, and put pen to paper, right? I am beginning to really appreciate the skill of real artists.

The 'Hello, world!' under Harry is the best part of this picture to me. It really does sum up his feelings quite well.
